How do I qualify for a mortgage modification?
When you’ve fallen behind on payments or contemplating stopping payments, the first call you should make is to your lender. Be sure and have all your financial information ready to share with them including but not limited to:
- Pay stubs
- Bank statements
- Tax returns
- Financial worksheet (provided by your lender)
- Any other supporting financial documentation – child support, alimony, profit and loss statement
- Any proof of hardship – medical bills, job loss, etc.
You may choose to either do a modification with your lender, or you can also potentially go through the government program – Making Home Affordable.
